Aqaba is a very walkable city with tree-lined streets, wide sidewalks and parks. The best way to know the town is to explore it on foot. With shops, restaurants and cafes staying open till nearly midnight, town residents love to shop at night, and can be seen enjoying a fresh fruit cocktail or argileh at one of the many outdoor cafes. The market (souq) has everything from souvenir shops, gold shops, bakeries and traditional pastry shops, liquor stores, boutiques, fresh produce markets, nut shops, spice shops, and so much more. If you can't find something you're looking for, all you have to do is stop someone and ask directions. Town residents are very friendly and quite accustomed to the sight of tourists walking about town. While there isn't as much variety in Aqaba as there is in Amman, taking a trip to the capital once a month to buy those items you can't live without can be quite a fun adventure. Driving back to Aqaba is always welcome. Our town is quieter, less congested, has amazing sunsets, and is such a healthy place to live. ![]() Books & Newspapers Yamani Bookshop (Tel: 03 201 2221) and Redwan Bookshop (Tel: 03 201 3704) sell international newspapers and books in English.
